IG launches Bail-is-Free campaign in Niger

Minna—The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has officially launched the Bail is Free campaign in Minna, Niger State, with a directive to the X-Squad to effect immediate enforcement.


Besides, the squad has also been empowered to arrest, detain and discipline any erring Police officer who goes contrary to the new order.

The IG, who was represented by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Moshood Jimoh, said though the policy had been there for a long time, it will be vigorously pursued this time.

He called on traditional rulers, community and religious leaders as well as other stakeholders to report any erring Police officer, who demanded money for bail to the Commissioner of Police or to the Force Public Relations Officer.

In his remarks, Niger State Commissioner of Police, Austin Agbonlahor, stated that the flag off was part of the IG’s desire to police the country based on international core values and integrity, adding that the command will ensure Rule of Law prevails.
