Former Governor of Jigawa state Sule Lamido has lambasted Governor Mohammad Badaru Abubakar for rejecting court order on the just-concluded Local Government elections.
He wondered how a democratically elected government would defy a clear position of the judiciary.
The Jigawa State Independent Electoral Commission (JISIEC) had on Sunday declared as winners the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidates in the 27 Local Government Areas of the state.
Speaking with newsmen in Bamaina, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area, Lamido lamented the total disregard for the rule of law and rubbishing the authority of court.
”Once courts are rubbished, they lose what they have as authority. It is a dangerous precedence for government to be involved in court contempt,” he said.
Also speaking, Aminu Ringin, a former gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, described the election as an illegal exercise.
”As law-abiding citizens, we did not participate in the election because of the court order, so this is an illegal election.
”We are therefore waiting till September 20, the date the court has set aside to hear the substantive case we filed before the it,” he said.
