The father of Omar Mateen, the gunman who opened fire on a gay club in Orlando, Florida at the weekend, has apologised for his son’s actions.
He declared his son’s actions as terrorism.
Seddique Mateen said, “I am mad and if I had known that he was committing such a crime, I would have had him arrested myself, I would have called the FBI and I would have called the local law enforcement.”
The family is shocked by Omar’s actions.
43 of the injured victims are still recovering in hospital.
Omar was previously questioned by the FBI, but was let go as he was not considered to be a threat.
It is believed that he had a gripe with the LGBT community.
He called 911 to pledge his allegiance to ISIS, before opening fire on the nightclub.
He used a rifle and a handgun, killing nearly 50 people.
He was killed at the scene by authorities.
